Welcome to our Nursery Class!

Here at St John’s Mead Nursery Class we value each child. Our aim is to make every child feel happy, secure and curious about the world around them helping them to become enthusiastic, life-long learners. This Nursery Class is part of the school and we are run by qualified teachers and highly trained staff who are passionate about working with children and recognise the crucial development happening at this time in their life. Since we are part of South Gloucestershire we are able to attend relevant courses that continue to provide us with new ideas to support and develop children. Being attached to the school also allows us to have good links with the reception class.

We plan 'In the moment' meaning that we always follow the children's interests and provide a environment that is flexible and inspiring. When activities are open ended and staff are open minded the possibilities for learning and having fun are endless.

We understand that the outdoor environment is just as important as the indoors, and often take our learning outside , for example whether it be mark making activities or different ball games to develop hand-eye coordination and to encourage taking turns. We are also very lucky to be able to make full use of our lovely and large school grounds and resources, including our school hall, woodland, pond and garden area. The children love to go outdoors come rain or shine so we provide children with wellies when the weather is wetter to go on our ‘wellie walks’ where the children can be found playing hide and seek or building dens in the woods!
