School Closure

We are committed to ensuring that your child is still learning as much as possible during the time your child is not attending school.

Below is an overview of tasks we would like the children in Y1 and Y2 to be completing at home.   An updated overview will be added every Monday by 12:00.

We wish you well and thank you for your continued support during this time.

With warmest regards

Mrs Queiros, Miss Harris & Mrs Beeston

White Rose Maths Home Learning lessons

We have been really impressed with the fantastic effort children are making in completing the daily White Rose Maths lessons.  We appreciate all the support and encouragement that parents have given which we realise is not always easy alongside work commitments.  The feedback we have received about these lessons has been really positive and we can see from the work sent in on Dojo the successes and progress being made.  These structured lessons cover similar Maths learning we would have been doing in school and so are valuable in preparing your child for the next school year.

Give it a go!

If your child has not yet been doing any of these lessons, it is not too late to start.  The learning can begin at Summer Term - Week 9 of our home learning.  There will be no need to race through to catch up. Just do one each day or when you can and see how you go.  You may prefer to start with the current week, just be mindful that the lessons may draw on some skills missed so a bit of adult support may be needed.

What is it?

Video lesson Each day has a short video lesson to watch, explaining the learning and asking questions to check understanding. These can be paused so children can go through at their own pace. However, they are quite compact lessons which makes them perfect for using at home.

Activity sheets Each lesson has activity sheets with questions to work through. You can print this and children can answer on the sheet or just read the questions from the screen and record answers and notes in their homework book, or simply talk through the sheet together.

Answers The answers are included on a separate sheet to download so that children can check their learning and correct any errors or go through any misunderstandings.  The children can share their work with their class teachers by uploading on to Dojo.

Friday Challenges Friday is a bit different as a fun challenge is added that often links to the BBC Bitesize website.  These activities often require children to apply their previous learning or can be a fun way to consolidate what they have covered in the week.

The lessons vary in length depending on your child’s understanding but are usually between 20-40 minutes.   If you have any questions or need further support or guidance please message your child’s class teacher.

How do I access these resources?

We are missing teaching your children in school and are looking forward to their return.  We are mindful all families will have had different hurdles and journeys through this and we will be planning our Maths curriculum for next year accordingly.  So please do not become overly concerned, we know everyone is doing the best that they can in the given circumstances.  Children at St. John’s love Maths and we hope this will continue.  Have fun keeping your maths knowledge and skills fresh!
