A Learning Story for Child A

Child A has gone into the writing area and found a clipboard and went to the scrap paper drawer and got a grid with children’s names on. He attached the piece of paper to his clip board and got a pencil.
Child A held the clip board and walked around the class room.
Child A - “Good afternoon Philip.”
Philip – “Good afternoon Child A”
Child A made a mark on his piece of paper as if he was taking the register. Child A went up to every child in the nursery and said good afternoon, he would wait for their response and then mark off the piece of paper.
Child A came up to a new child in the nursery.
Child A – “Good afternoon. Excuse me, good afternoon, what is your name?”
R – “My name is Rudi.”
Child A - “Okay, Good afternoon Rudi.”
Child A waited - “you need to say good afternoon back for the register.”
R – “Good afternoon.”
Child A – “okay, I need to add you on the register, you aren’t on there yet.”
Child A ‘wrote’ Rudi’s name on the paper by making marks.
Child A then pretended to count out loud all the people on the register “okay, so there are 12 people here today.”

Get the name cards out with tracing paper to develop Child A’s mark making.
Write initial sounds of names in fun ways. Initial letter printing in wet sand, with paint etc.
Set up a small school in foyer to develop Child A’s interest in this role play. Use chairs, circle mats, ring binders and post it notes with pencils.
