Festival Celebration Days (July 2019)

On Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th July 2019, all the children in St John’s Mead, from Reception to Year 6, took part in a celebratory event exploring the variety of wonderful ways people up and down our country and our planet mark their different festivals.

Over the two days, the children explored festivals from Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism Sikhism and Chinese New Year. In addition to workshops devoted to each celebration, we also were joined by three wonderful visitors who shared their own experiences of festivals as a Christian, a Muslim and a Jew. Their first-hand experience gave the children (and the adults) an amazing insight into their celebrations.

They were brilliant, enriching days!

The festivals we celebrated were Christingle, Eid al-Fitr, Songkran, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Hanukah, Holi, Easter, Vaisakhi, Harvest and Sukkot.
