Hello! We are your Eco Club for 2024-25
* We are the class represenatives from Years 1-6 and we meet every Friday lunchtime to discuss ways we can improve our school's sustainability. We want our school to become more environmentally responsible, championing these great causes for the benefit of the whole school community.

Did you know that1 in 4 cars in the morning are on the school run, so when children actively travel to school (by either walking, cycling or scooting) not only do they get the physical and mental benefits, but it also means there are less cars. This means less congestion and air pollution around the school gates, and makes the roads safer for our pupils.
If the journey from home is too far to walk or cycle the whole way to school, then Park and Stride is an alternative option which involves parking the car at least 5-10 minutes away from school and then completing the rest of the journey in an active way.
St John’s Mead school now has an Active Travel Zone Map (see below) which families can use to see where the 5 and 10 minute walking zones are, around the school.
Walking Bubbles
For those wanting to use the Park and Stride option, Walking Bubble stickers have now been placed on lamp posts in a 5 minute ‘bubble’ around the school to make it easier to know where the minimum 5 minute zone is.
We want to encourage families to park outside of the 5 minute ‘bubble’ and then walk, scoot or cycle past a sticker to ‘burst it’ for the journey to be classed as park and stride. If you spot a sticker on your journey into school, send us a selfie via dojo so that we can celebrate everyone that is able to make a positive change!
