Apollo and Atlantis

Welcome to Reception!

So far this term, we have been focusing on our topic 'Looking after our world'. The children have been sharing fantastic ideas about the 4Rs (recycle, repair, reduce, reuse) and have been sorting different materials and junk modelling as a result of sharing the story 'George Saves the World by Lunchtime'. Thank you for your support when encouraging your child to sort various materials for recycling at home!

We are currently learning all about Chinese New Year which is officially celebrated this year on 25th January and this year is the year of the rat. This week the children were introduced to Chinese New Year by Ms Tai, who regularly celebrates Chinese New Year with her family. Ms Tai brought in some traditional outfits to show the children and has been making dumplings with them too. We have been doing messy play with noodles, exploring using chop sticks, making concertina dragons and learning fun facts, for example it is lucky to slurp long noodles in order to bring you a long life! We have also been busy chopping and preparing vegetables to make stir fry in class. Here are some photos....

Requests:

  • If you have any digital cameras that you no longer need, we would be very grateful for any donations for the children to use in class (with blank memory cards). Many thanks in advance!
  • Towards the end of the term, we hope to be focusing on different occupations. If you have an interesting job that you would like to come in and share with the children, please let a member of teaching staff know. Alternatively, you could share information about your job as a video on Tapestry. Many thanks in advance!

Do you have any ideas for this page? Please let a member of the Reception team know.
